DECISION NO. 876/QD-TTG APPROVING THE ACTION PROGRAM ON GREEN ENERGY TRANSITION, REDUCING CARBON AND METHANE EMISSIONS OF THE TRANSPORTATION SECTOR

On July 22, 2022, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 876/QD-TTg approving the Action Program on green energy transition, reducing carbon and methane emissions of the transportation sector (hereinafter referred to as the Green Energy Transformation Action Program).

Green energy transformation is the most basic and important task in the process of implementing green growth goals as well as implementing Vietnam's commitments at COP26. In particular, the green energy transformation in the transportation industry is based on a strong technological transformation, which should rely on modern institutions and governance, advanced science and technology, also high-quality human resources. .

The overall objective of this Program is to develop a green transportation system towards the goal of net greenhouse gas emissions to "zero" by 2050. Accordingly, the program has set out a specific green energy transition roadmap in each phase for each transport model including road, railway, inland waterway, maritime, aviation and even urban traffic.

For this purpose, a number of goals and solutions need to be implemented including:

• Building and finalizing institutions, policies and planning;

• Converting vehicles using electricity and green energy;

• Developing green transport infrastructure;

• Improving energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions;

• Strengthening international cooperation, science and technology, human resource development and communication.

To implement the program, all domestic and international resources, public and private will be mobilized to the fullest extent. Ministries including Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction together with provincial People's Committees will jointly implement the program.
